Three-Day Guru Yoga Practice Retreat
From 12 to 14 July 2024, Khenpo Chagkhung Tsewang Rinpoche led a three-day Guru Yoga practice retreat in Sydney, Australia. Disciples from Sydney and surrounding regions gathered to receive teachings, transmissions, and guided meditation on this profound practice.
About Guru Yoga
Guru Yoga is one of the most essential and profound practices in Vajrayana Buddhism. It is the practice of merging one's mind with the mind of the Guru, recognising the Guru as inseparable from the Buddha. Through devotion, visualization, prayer, and meditation, practitioners cultivate a deep and direct connection with the lineage of awakened masters.
In the Nyingma tradition, Guru Yoga holds a central place as a gateway to the Great Perfection (Dzogchen). Rinpoche has consistently emphasized that without genuine devotion and Guru Yoga practice, it is extremely difficult to receive the blessings necessary for inner realization.
Retreat Highlights
- ◆Detailed teachings on the meaning and methods of Guru Yoga practice
- ◆Oral transmission and reading transmission of the Guru Yoga liturgy
- ◆Guided group meditation sessions each morning and afternoon
- ◆Tsok offering ceremony on the final day
- ◆Question and answer sessions addressing practitioners' personal practice challenges
Rinpoche's Guidance
Throughout the retreat, Rinpoche emphasized the importance of genuine devotion as the foundation of all spiritual progress. He taught that Guru Yoga is not merely a ritual recitation, but a living practice that transforms one's perception and opens the heart to the blessings of the lineage.
Rinpoche also shared personal stories of his own guru devotion and his experiences with His Holiness Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, inspiring all participants to deepen their own practice with sincerity and persistence.
The three-day retreat concluded auspiciously with a group photo and dedication of merit. Participants expressed deep gratitude for the rare opportunity to receive such precious teachings in an intimate and supportive environment.
