Phowa

Phowa

Guru Rinpoche once said “Many offer instructions for achieving enlightenment through practice, but I present a unique teaching that leads to enlightenment without the need for practice.”

Guru Rinpoche was referring to the instructions on Phowa, also known as Transference of Consciousness at the Time of Death, a straightforward yet potent means of ejecting one's consciousness from the crown aperture into Dewachen. By bypassing the bardos and avoiding rebirth in the six realms of cyclic existence, practitioners can quickly attain enlightenment. Those with sufficient realization can facilitate this transfer of consciousness for themselves as well as for others. In Vajrayana, Phowa is seen as a direct path to enlightenment.

“ My greatest aspiration in this life is to guide all living beings who establish a friendly as well as hostile bond with me to incarnate to Dewachen. ”
